Members of the APC - Nigeria's main opposition - were reportedly waiting for their leaders to arrive at the venue when the incident occurred.
It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the attack.

Nigerian Man repeatedly posed as fictional legally blind twin brother to get out of several traffic tickets.

A New Jersey man allegedly told court officials that he was his blind twin brother - who didn't exist - to get out of several traffic tickets.
Police said that Olawale Agoro, of Hackensack, told municipal court judges and clerks repeatedly that his name was Tony and that it was his brother who had racked up the tickets.
Agoro, 58, would go into court, identify himself as Tony and request that his court date be postponed
.
The alleged incidents began on July 31 when a Maywood Police Officer pulled over Agoro and issued five motor vehicle summonses.

Indian woman allows husband to smash coconut balanced on her throat... with a machete.

There is trust in a relationship and then, on a whole other level, there is what daredevil stunt couple Bhramharamba and Balashankar Budati share.
The Budatis, from Chirala Mandal in India, perform incredible - or insane depending on your perspective - feats with sticks, stones and sharp objects for the amusement of others.

And usually they involve Bhramharamba in the firing line, as in this video where Balashankar balances a coconut on his wife's throat before he demolishes it with a giant machete, its all good until he decides to take another wife...

Cyber bank robbers steal $1bn, says Kaspersky report.

Up to 100 banks and financial institutions worldwide have been attacked in an "unprecedented cyber robbery", claims a new report.
Computer security firm Kaspersky Lab estimates $1bn (£648m) has been stolen in the attacks, which it says started in 2013 and are still ongoing.
A cybercriminal gang with members from Russia, Ukraine and China is responsible, it said.
Kaspersky said it worked with Interpol and Europol on the investigation.
It said the attacks had taken place in 30 countries including financial firms in Russia, US, Germany, China, Ukraine and Canada.
"These attacks again underline the fact that criminals will exploit any vulnerability in any system," said Sanjay Virmani, director of Interpol's digital crime centre.
Kaspersky said the gang's methods marked a new stage in cyber robbery where "malicious users steal money directly from banks and avoid targeting end users".
The gang, which Kaspersky dubbed Carbanak, used computer viruses to infect company networks with malware including video surveillance, enabling it to see and record everything that happened on staff's screens.
In some cases it was then able to transfer money from the banks' accounts to their own, or even able to tell cash machines to dispense cash at a pre-determined time of day.
Kaspersky said on average each bank robbery took between two and four months, with up to $10m stolen each time.

Nigerian parents in the UK,in trouble for scolding their children.

A mother and father who beat their young daughters with phone chargers and a wooden spoon told a judge it was 'acceptable' in their native Nigeria.
The couple have been spared jail despite social workers uncovering the extent of the abuse on the children - who are all aged under eight - and taking them into care for their protection.
Instead the pair, who moved from Nigeria to Northampton, were handed 180 hours of unpaid work each after they admitted three charges of child cruelty at Northampton Crown Court.
A judge heard they regularly hit their three daughters on the arms and legs, locked them in their rooms when they misbehaved and made one kneel with her hands in the air.
The abuse went undiscovered until a routine interview at school between a social worker and the eldest girl, which was arranged because the family had arrived in Britain from another country.
Prosecutor Mary Loram said the girl revealed she was regularly hit on the back with a phone charger wire, and her parents struck her with their hands on her arms and legs,
Judge Lynn Tayton ruled that the punishments dished out by the pair were unreasonable, but their behaviour had not been severe enough for them to be sent to jail.
'You thought you were doing the right thing; something that would happen in Nigeria,' she said.
'You thought it was appropriate chastisement.'
Judge Tayton sentenced the man and woman to a community order including 180 hours of unpaid work.
They were also given a three-month curfew from 7pm to 7am. WOW .

And Brenner says she made her intentions quite clear.
