An AirAsia flight from Indonesia to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic controllers, according to local media.
Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustofa said the aircraft,
flight number QZ 8501, lost contact with the Jakarta air traffic
control tower at 6.17am local time.He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact.
An Indonesian transport official confirmed the plane was an Airbus 320-200 and that seven crew and 155 passengers were on board.
The plane lost communication with Indonesia's Surabaya airport 42 minutes after takeoff at 5.35 am, Hadi Mustofa, an official of the transportation ministry told Indonesia's MetroTV.
Local media are reporting there were 149 Indonesians, three Koreans, one Singaporean, one Briton and one Malaysian national on board.
A statement on AirAsia's Facebook page said: "AirAsia Indonesia regrets to confirm that flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control at 0724hrs this morning.We'll keep you posted on developments as they break.
